As I was the only one in the office, the day was a little slow, and I spent my time designing some new forms, blogging, and writing a couple listserv posts. The highlight of the day was going to see “Utamaro: the Musical” in front of the actual “Inventing Utamaro” exhibit.
The musical itself is fairly old: created in 1972, it toured the US in the 80s and five of the fifty-member cast came back this weekend for a revival of the hit songs in full costume. For those of you like me that are big Broadway fans, the music felt the same- catchy and upbeat. It didn’t matter if I couldn’t understand the language, the emotion was there. And seeing it in an exhibit was so cool!
